Installation Instructions:

At the present time, ICQ is in the Alpha Testing stage so installing the product is a problem unless you are an official tester.

1. Backup your ICQ Directory !

2. Download the file

3. Copy loader.exe into the same directory as icq2000a.exe (the installer program)

4. Close all running programs open on your system including those hiding in the CTRL ALT DEL menu (everything except explorer.exe).

5. Run loader.exe

6. You should now have loader.exe loading icq2000a.exe (the installer), you will receive the same error message stating that you can not install the product.

7. Click "OK" and the installation should continue !

8. Convert your ICQ Database History to the new ICQ 2000 format with the included utility.

9.Enjoy ICQ : )

You are most likely getting the error message:

"Shit .. Could not create target process !"

If you are getting this error there are two things you can try.

Firstly, be absolutely sure that the file "loader.exe" and the ICQ 2000 installation program "icq2000a.exe" are both located in the same directory. For example c:\downloads, then try running loader.exe

If you are getting the same error message many users recommended closing your virus scanner and all other programs that are currently running including those hiding in the CTRL ALT DEL process menu leaving only explorer.exe

Once you have done this return to your directory and run loader.exe, if you get the same error there's nothing left to try.

Connection Problems:

Users who have recently downloaded and installed ICQ 2000a may have problems connecting to the ICQ Servers even after a successfull install !In such a situation you are probably getting the error message:

Access is granted to authorized users of ICQ Alpha version only

If this is the case you will just have to wait for an new Alpha or Beta version of ICQ 2000 - the ICQ 2000 testing team is currently full and they're not allowing any new users to log in using the ICQ 2000 Alpha client.

How do I switch between different users on my machine ?

Firstly, click on the bottom left main ICQ button and make sure you are in "Advanced Mode". Then go to Preferences in the ICQ menu and make sure you are on the "Contact List" page. Click on the "Design" tab and make sure "Show bottom Contact List buttons" is checked.

Once checked you should see a new ICQ button at the bottom of your screen labeled "My ICQ". Click it and select "Change User On This Computer" then "Change The Active User" and select your new user.

The ICQ icons next to the names on my list are gray !

Yes, I get the same thing, maybe it's the way they designed it or how it's going to be in the Alpha version only. The only difference between your ICQ and the screenshot above is probably that they are using a yellow background color which can be set up in preferences.

Will ICQ Plus work with ICQ 2000 ?

The current public version of ICQ Plus works reasonably well with ICQ 2000, it skins most but not all the new features of ICQ 2000. Some items such as the ICQ 2000 logo remains gray and the "ICQuick" side bar does not skin at all.

According to the author, Vadim Eremeev, the next version of ICQ Plus, version 2.04, will support ICQ 2000 properly. This should be released 3 - 4 days after the next version of ICQ 2000a.

If you wish you can download the beta dll for ICQ Plus which supports ICQ 2000, keep in mind that this is a beta and you might encounter some unusual problems common in beta software.

To install the dll, first close ICQ. Find your ICQ Plus directory, rename the file VPlus.dll to VPlus.old and extract the new VPlus.dll into that directory from the vplus.zip file. Run ICQ again and it should work. You should see a properly skinned "ICQuick Bar" and the ICQ 2000 logo.
